Doha: The death toll from heavy rains that hit the coastal city of Bahia Blanca, southwest of Argentina, has risen to 15. Local authorities said rescue teams are searching for dozens of people who were reported missing, including two girls, indicating that more than 1,450 people have been evacuated from the city, including patients from a local hospital.
According to Qatar News Agency, the level of rain that fell on Bahia Blanca in recent days has reached about 12 inches (300 mm), while the historical monthly average is about 5 inches (129 mm). The municipal authorities had previously confirmed that they did not rule out an increase in the number of victims, given the scale of the climate disaster that resulted in unprecedented floods.
The city has previously witnessed severe weather events, as it was exposed at the end of 2023 to a violent storm accompanied by heavy rains and winds of 150 km/h, which led to the death of 13 people after the roof of a sports club collapsed.
