DRC Deputy PM Highlights Significance of HH the Amir’s Kinshasa Visit for Bilateral Relations

Kinshasa: HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Communications, and Public Works of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Jean-Pierre Bemba, stated that the visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Kinshasa marks an important step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries and advancing relations across several sectors.

According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency expressed that the Congo has been eagerly anticipating HH the Amir's visit, particularly due to the distinguished relationship and ongoing communication between HH the Amir and HE President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi. He noted that the visit underscores the existing friendship between the two nations and represents a move toward enhancing bilateral rapprochement, with hopes for significant outcomes on political, social, and cultural fronts.

His Excellency commended Qatar's efforts in establishing peace and security in eastern Congo and the Great Lakes region, highlighting the Doha Framework Agreement for Peace between the Congolese government and the Congo River Alliance. He emphasized that Qatar's support illustrates a genuine desire for a peaceful resolution, with the recent signing representing progress toward a potential settlement. He expressed optimism that the agreement would be fully implemented, with mechanisms that are trackable and verifiable, a hope shared by both the Congolese people and government.

Discussing economic cooperation, His Excellency pointed to favorable conditions for enhancing economic and commercial ties, as the Democratic Republic of the Congo has opened its economy to investors, especially in land and air transport, industry, and energy sectors. He emphasized the importance of investment in the mining sector, given the country's rich natural resources, and highlighted opportunities in mineral processing and expanding the electricity sector for industrial support.

In his remarks to QNA, the Deputy Prime Minister underscored that the electricity, transport, mining, and energy sectors in the Congo are vital and promising, presenting various opportunities for mutual benefit.
