Papua New Guinea: An earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Papua New Guinea on Monday. The epicenter of the quake occurred 128 km south of the city of Samarai, at a depth of 10 km, the US Geological Survey reported. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the quake.
According to Qatar News Agency, Papua New Guinea is located in the so-called Ring of Fire, a region that extends along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, which is characterized by high seismic and volcanic activity. This region includes 90 percent of the active volcanoes in the world.
