Earthquake of 5.2 Magnitude Hits South of Kermadec Islands off New Zealand

Wellington: An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Wednesday south of the Kermadec Islands off the coast of New Zealand.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said in a statement that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 55.4 kilometers, while no tsunami warnings were issued.

No human or material losses have been reported as a result of the earthquake so far.

Kermadec Islands are about 1,000 km northeast of New Zealand's North Island, and are often exposed to strong earthquakes.
