Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed developments in Lebanon and the region with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who is currently visiting Egypt. During the meeting, the two sides emphasized the convergence of positions between Egypt and Lebanon regarding developments in the Gaza Strip.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting also witnessed a consensus on the importance of intensifying joint efforts to find political and peaceful solutions to the crises facing some countries in the region, while emphasizing the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of these countries. The Egyptian President affirmed his country's full support for the Lebanese State's efforts to restore stability and embark on the process of economic recovery and reconstruction.
El Sisi also stressed the need for the Lebanese State to continue to exert all necessary efforts to ensure that Lebanon's stability, internal security, and national unity are not undermined. He praised the steps taken by the Lebanese government in recent months to restore the regularity of state institutions and extend its authority throughout Lebanon. El Sisi reiterated Egypt's supportive stance on Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
He noted Egypt's ongoing contacts with various international and regional actors, aiming to ensure Lebanon's stability and a full Israeli withdrawal from its south. He emphasized the importance of the international community's support for Lebanese State institutions, particularly the army, to enable it to perform its assigned national duties.
For his part, the Lebanese Prime Minister reviewed his government's priorities for the coming period, foremost among which is strengthening cooperation and integration with Arab countries, especially Egypt. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to hold the 10th session of the Egyptian-Lebanese Joint Higher Committee, scheduled to be held in Cairo later this year.
