Doha: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has launched the "Cancer Patients Treatment Endowment" in Doha.
According to Qatar News Agency, this initiative will be implemented under the Healthcare Waqf Fund to support cancer treatment and sustain healthcare services, in coordination with the nation's health authorities. The Endowment aims to enhance the health system by exploring enduring resources that support the sector and assist patients.
Director-General Eng. Hassan Abdullah Al Marzouqi explained that the endowment is designed to alleviate the financial burdens of cancer patients. It aims to make medicines and medical devices accessible through a permanent endowment source, ensuring sustained care. Al Marzouqi mentioned that the endowment will provide support by generating income from waqf investments, earmarked for cancer treatment.
Al Marzouqi highlighted that supporting the endowment involves creating long-lasting assets, which will be used to fund patient care annually. This includes purchasing medicines and supplies in collaboration with state health authorities. He emphasized that the initiative offers benefactors the chance to contribute to various endowment ventures, such as real estate and investment projects, dedicated to treating cancer patients.
He further stated that this move will ensure perpetual giving and development impact, as the waqf law permits endowing real estate, personal property, stocks, and other assets. The establishment of this endowment reflects the Directorate's commitment to providing top-tier health services, supporting societal development through sustainable health initiatives.
