Doha: The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs is set to organize the second Umma symposium focusing on collective obligations as a pathway to societal reform. Scheduled to begin on January 7, 2025, the symposium aims to revive and promote the culture of communal obligations as a tool for societal improvement.
According to Qatar News Agency, the event is organized by the Department of Islamic Research and Studies. Director HE Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al-Thani emphasized the department’s commitment to the theme of collective obligations, underscoring their importance for both thought and action in the broader context of societal reform.
The symposium will take place at the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd Al-Wahhab Mosque and will address social issues by exploring the potential of collective obligations as an effective reform strategy. The event will feature experts from the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University, aiming to identify key social problems and propose solutions.
The first Umma symposium, held in October 2024, concentrated on the application of collective obligations in the knowledge reform process, setting a precedent for this upcoming event.
