Brussels: The European Commission on Monday approved additional financial assistance worth EUR 6.1 billion (USD 7.12 billion) for Ukraine to purchase new defense systems.
According to Qatar News Agency, the European Union (EU) stated that the assistance is provided in support for air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunitions, and radars. This package is an addition to EUR 16 billion in previously approved procurement plans, of which EUR 8.35 billion has already been disbursed.
The EU announced that it is intensifying its efforts to assist Ukraine in protecting its people and defending its airspace, especially as Russia escalates its attacks. The Union emphasized that Europe stands with Ukraine and assured Kyiv of necessary support.
In recent weeks, the frequency of reciprocal Russian and Ukrainian attacks targeting infrastructure and energy facilities has increased. This occurs amidst stalled US-led mediation efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire and creating conditions conducive for a return to negotiations.
