Post: EU Dismisses US Diesel Export Restriction Threat

Brussels:The European Union has dismissed a warning from the United States about restricting diesel exports to Europe unless European nations increase the release of fuel from their reserves.

According to Qatar News Agency, European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen stated that the EU "strongly rejects" any potential ban on diesel exports. She emphasized that such actions would undermine mutual trust and are not in the interest of either party, potentially affecting confidence in the United States as a reliable partner.

Discussions are ongoing among EU countries regarding a French proposal to release 50 million barrels of diesel from European reserves. This plan would complement a scheduled release of 50 million barrels of crude oil by members of the International Energy Agency. These measures aim to boost supplies and alleviate pressure on fuel prices amid the current tight conditions in global markets.

The European Commission has noted that while diesel supplies within the EU remain stable, prices are still high due to limited global supply. The EU's Oil Coordination Group is set to convene on October 15, though the meeting may be advanced if necessary developments occur.
