Executive Director of the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund Highlights Achievements and Future Plans: 130,000 Workers Benefited Since 2018

Doha: Executive Director of the Workers' Support and Insurance Fund, Kholoud Saif Abdullah Al Kubaisi, confirmed that the Fund has achieved a significant number of goals since its inception in 2018, contributing to improved working conditions and environments for workers and providing them with a decent living. This achievement is part of a series of reforms undertaken by the state.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Kubaisi pointed out that the Fund has been successful in maintaining a balance between the rights of workers and employers. This balance is based on a primarily humanitarian role and objectives aimed at enhancing the economic and social stability of workers, addressing challenges such as delayed payment of wages, financial dues, or disputes with employers.

The Fund's objectives and achievements align with the comprehensive reforms under Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks to improve working conditions and align with international commitments, such as those to the International Labor Organization. These reforms have enhanced Qatar's global reputation for respecting and ensuring workers' rights and commitment to international labor standards.

Al Kubaisi revealed that 130,000 workers have benefited from the Fund's services since its establishment. The Fund has played a significant role in protecting workers' rights and ensuring they receive their financial dues. It covers workers' dues in cases decided by the Labor Disputes Settlement Committee and settles financial disputes through associated mechanisms, providing immediate support to affected workers, thereby ensuring their financial stability.

The labor reforms initiated by the state and the Ministry of Labour, including the establishment of the Fund, have significantly reduced labor disputes and complaints. The Fund provides its services with transparency and fairness, with five communities-Indian, Bangladeshi, Filipino, Pakistani, and Nepalese-benefiting the most, followed by other communities residing in the country.

The budget of the Fund is derived from 60% of the work permit renewal fees. Al Kubaisi highlighted the Fund's focus on sustainability, investment, and income diversification through investment management. The Fund also emphasizes the moral aspect of the workforce by organizing cultural, sports, and social activities, seminars on health and safety, and awareness workshops.

The Fund actively participates in local, regional, and international events, enhancing its global presence, as seen during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and other prominent events. The wage protection indicators have improved significantly due to the extensive reforms implemented by Qatar concerning the work environment.

The Fund collaborates with various ministries and entities to serve workers' welfare, enhance their societal integration, and provide them with a safe and sustainable environment. It also partners with the Supreme Judiciary Council to implement final decisions and rulings issued by the Dispute Resolution Committees regarding workers' dues.

In conclusion, Al Kubaisi reiterated the pivotal role of workers in Qatar's development and their dedication to supporting various development projects. Ensuring workers' rights is a humanitarian and national commitment consistent with Qatar National Vision 2030.
