Floods and Landslides Ravage Central Vietnam, Leaving 8 Dead and 7 Missing

Doha: Eight people were killed and seven others remain missing due to floods and landslides in central Vietnam. Vietnamese authorities reported that a new wave of floods and landslides has hit central Vietnam since the beginning of the week.

According to Qatar News Agency, rainfall has exceeded 1,100 millimeters in some areas, submerging entire villages and disrupting the coffee harvest in Dak Lak province. Traders in the region stated that only about 10-15% of the crop had been harvested, as farmers require sunlight to dry the beans.

Authorities took action by evacuating hundreds of families overnight, and schools were closed in Gia Lai County. Meanwhile, in the ancient city of Hoi An, water levels rose again, compelling residents and tourists to navigate the flooded streets by boat.

The Vietnamese weather forecast has issued warnings of more floods and landslides as heavy rains continue. Natural disasters in Vietnam, including storms, landslides, and floods, have resulted in multiple deaths and missing persons since the beginning of 2025.
