DAMASCUS: The Foreign Minister of the Syrian Transitional Government, Asaad Al Sheibani, announced on Wednesday that Syria is open and prepared for dialogue with all international parties, signaling a potential shift in diplomatic relations. Al Sheibani emphasized the importance of developing ties with the United States, noting that the future of these relations depends largely on the American side. He asserted that any balance achieved in these relations would benefit the Syrian people.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Sheibani highlighted the potential significance of relations with the United States, suggesting they could be decisive for Syria’s future. He called for the lifting of sanctions on Syria, arguing that the sanctions were initially imposed to support the Syrian populace against an oppressive regime. With the regime of former President Bashar Al Assad now ousted, Al Sheibani contended that the main justification for these sanctions no longer exists.
The Foreign Minister also pointed out that Syria is actively working to repair the damage inflicted by the previous regime. He argued that the continued imposition of sanctions is counterproductive to these efforts. Al Sheibani reiterated the new administration’s commitment to treating all citizens as Syrians, rather than categorizing them as minority groups, marking a departure from previous policies.
