New york: Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohammed Albudaiwi and European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Christophe Bigot engaged in discussions regarding the latest developments in the Palestinian issue. This meeting occurred on the sidelines of a high-level ministerial session at the United Nations (UN) Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-state Solution, held at the UN headquarters in New York.
According to Qatar News Agency, both parties exchanged views on regional and international efforts supporting the peace process, aiming for a just and comprehensive solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. The GCC Secretary General highlighted the need for joint action to lift the siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the necessity of facilitating the delivery of relief aid to mitigate the conditions in the region.
Albudaiwi underscored the importance of intensifying international efforts to end the Israeli occupation and halt illegal practices that jeopardize peace and security prospects in the region. He reaffirmed the unwavering position of the GCC countries in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to establish an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Both sides also expressed a commitment to enhancing joint coordination and cooperation between the GCC and the EU, supporting all international initiatives aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East to promote regional and international security and stability.
