Doha: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, discussed developments in the region with the UN Secretary General's Representative in Iraq and the Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Dr. Mohammed bin Awad Al Hassan. During the meeting, Albudaiwi praised the efforts of the UNAMI in supporting the Iraqi government and people in achieving peace, stability, and sustainable development, expressing hope that the mission would be able to fulfill its responsibilities and resolve all outstanding issues, particularly those related to the State of Kuwait and Iraq. According to Qatar News Agency, the GCC Secretary-General also reaffirmed the positions and decisions articulated in the statement issued by the GCC Ministerial Council during its 161st session. This statement emphasized the council's consistent stance towards Iraq, supporting ongoing efforts to achieve security and stability in the country. Albudaiwi highlighted the importance of preserving the safety and integrity of Iraq's territory, its full sovereignty, its Arab identity, social fabric, and national unity. He also underscored the necessity of supporting Iraq in its fight against terrorist groups and armed militias to uphold state sovereignty and enforce the law. During the meeting, they also addressed ways to enhance cooperation between the GCC and the UNAMI. They reviewed the latest developments in the region and exchanged views on these matters.
