German Inflation Spikes to 2.7% in March 2026

Germany: Germany's Federal Statistical Office announced that the annual inflation rate in Germany reached 2.7% in March 2026, according to the preliminary reading, compared to 1.9% in February. Prices rose by 1.1% month-on-month.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Harmonized Index of European Consumer Prices (HICP) indicated that inflation was 2.8% year-on-year and 1.2% month-on-month.

The Office stated that core inflation, excluding volatile items like food and energy, reached 2.5% year-on-year. Prices for services saw an increase of 3.2%, while goods prices rose by 2.3%.

The data highlighted a notable rise in energy prices, which surged by 7.2% year-on-year. This is a significant shift from the previous months, where energy prices decreased by 1.9% in February, 1.7% in January, and 1.3% in December 2025.

In contrast, food prices experienced a smaller increase, rising by 0.9% in March. This compares to a 1.1% rise in February and a more pronounced 2.1% increase in January.
