Doha: Google has officially discontinued support for the YouTube app and its core related services on older smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This decision impacts a significant number of users who now face reduced levels of security protection on their devices.
According to Qatar News Agency, the discontinuation follows Google's decision to raise the minimum requirements needed to run its services suite. Consequently, Android 7.0 Nougat has become the currently supported version, as Google aims to enhance the development of new features while reducing security risks associated with older operating systems.
This move has led to further security vulnerabilities for affected devices due to the lack of future updates. Technology experts recommend users access the platform through a web browser, check for pending system updates, or upgrade to a newer device to maintain app functionality and data security.
As a result, users with older devices have started receiving notifications urging them to use YouTube's official website through internet browsers, as the app has ceased functioning entirely.
