Post: GSMA Director General Highlights Qatar’s Digital Advancements

Doha:Director General of GSMA, Vivek Badrinath, has affirmed that Qatar has successfully laid a robust foundation for its digital ambitions through substantial investments in mobile and fiber-optic networks, as well as ongoing commitments to infrastructure for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data.

According to Qatar News Agency, Badrinath emphasized that telecommunications companies in Qatar are crucial in developing an advanced connectivity ecosystem. This ecosystem is expected to support the next phase of the nation's digital growth and enhance network capabilities.

Badrinath also pointed out that as Qatar's technological ecosystem continues to evolve, the challenge remains to transform these investments into sustainable economic and social value. This transformation requires cultivating local talent, supporting companies that can introduce new technologies to the domestic market, and fostering collaboration between international firms and Qatari institutions and entrepreneurs.

Furthermore, he noted that MWC26 Doha, scheduled for November 8-10 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, could play a significant role in this transformation. The event is expected to provide Qatari companies and institutions with direct access to the global telecommunications and technology ecosystem, addressing key topics such as artificial intelligence, advanced telecommunications, digital infrastructure, smart economies, and interconnected infrastructure.

Badrinath also highlighted the importance of MWC26 Doha coinciding with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference, hosted by the Communications Regulatory Authority. He emphasized the significance of strengthening the link between technology and policy, highlighting the concurrent organization of these two major events by GSMA and ITU in Qatar for the first time.
