Doha: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani has inaugurated the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit at the Sheraton Doha Hotel. The summit saw the participation of Arab and Islamic leaders, heads of state, and senior officials.
According to Qatar News Agency, HH the Amir, who chaired the session, addressed the gathering, highlighting a recent attack on Doha, which targeted a residence housing families of Hamas' political leadership and its negotiating delegation. The attack resulted in the loss of six lives, including a Qatari citizen from the Internal Security Forces, and injured 18 others. HH the Amir emphasized the attack as a violation of Qatar's sovereignty and international norms, especially given Qatar's role as a mediator in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
HH the Amir underscored Qatar's ongoing mediation efforts, which have led to hostages' release and temporary truces. Despite these efforts, he noted, Israel has continued its military actions. The Amir questioned Israel's intentions, given its simultaneous negotiation with Hamas and attacks against its leaders. He highlighted the need for a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, Israel's withdrawal from Gaza, and humanitarian aid entry.
The Amir criticized Israel for its continued actions in Gaza and the West Bank, suggesting that Israel's real aim is territorial expansion and displacement of populations. He expressed concern over Israel's interventions in the region, labeling it as a delusion of power. HH the Amir called for concrete steps to address what he termed as the madness of power and arrogance exhibited by the Israeli government.
The opening ceremony featured HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, various ministers, and representatives of regional and international organizations. The summit seeks to take decisive actions in response to the ongoing conflict and violations of sovereignty experienced by Qatar.
