Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that the United States' economic strategies against Iran are a familiar scenario that Tehran is well-prepared to handle.
According to TRTworld.com, Araghchi made these remarks during a visit to the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, in Tehran. He criticized US President Donald Trump's recent announcement of an intensified economic campaign against Iran, labeling it as a mere repetition of past American policies. Araghchi emphasized that Washington's previous threats of military action have reverted to these familiar economic strategies, suggesting a lack of new options in dealing with Iran.
Araghchi further stressed that the US's inability to devise new strategies shows a failure to think beyond past plans when confronting the Iranian people. He urged the US to engage with Iran based on respect, justice, and dignity, rather than resorting to repetitive tactics.
The current tension follows President Trump's declaration of an unprecedented economic campaign against Iran, which he described as "Economic Warfare and Isolation." This comes after both nations signed a memorandum of understanding in June, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, to end hostilities that began in February and to seek a final agreement. However, negotiations have stalled due to disputes over the memorandum's implementation and issues related to navigation through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
