Post: Iran’s President Names Mohammad Reza Aref as First Vice President

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian, on Sunday, named Mohammad Reza Aref, as first vice president of the republic. In a decree, Iran's President affirmed that naming Aref in this position came by virtue of his invaluable competency and expertise in management and implementation. Mohammad Reza Aref previously served as the vice president during the presidency of Muhammad Khatami from 1997 to 2005. He also held several other positions, including representing Tehran in Parliament and serving as President of the University of Tehran from 1994 to 1997. Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei endorsed Sunday Masoud Pezeshkian as the new president of the country after his victory in the snap election held across the country following the death of the late President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May.
