Iraqi President Stresses Importance of Halting Regional Escalation

Doha: Iraqi President Nizar Amidi met Sunday with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam during his visit to Iraq: Iraqi President Nizar Amidi emphasized the importance of stopping regional escalation and prioritizing diplomacy to tackle ongoing crises. This approach, he noted, would contribute to enhancing security and stability at both regional and global levels.

According to Qatar News Agency, a statement from the Iraqi Presidency highlighted discussions between Amidi and Salam focused on deepening bilateral relations and addressing recent regional developments. President Amidi underscored the necessity for coordinated efforts to address challenges, affirming Iraq's commitment to supporting Lebanon's security and its political and economic stability.

Amidi stressed the significance of national consensus in this context and reiterated the need to strengthen state institutions to preserve Lebanon's sovereignty and unity. In response, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam acknowledged Iraq's role as a crucial Arab partner and expressed his government's eagerness to expand cooperation through joint projects and programs.

Salam commended Iraq for its supportive stance in fostering security and stability in Lebanon, highlighting the shared interests and goals of both nations in the region.
