Tokyo:Japanese shares fell more than 1 percent on Thursday, marking the second consecutive session of losses. Investors showed caution due to concerns over the outlook for US interest rates, rising bond yields, and geopolitical tensions, which dampened buying activity following recent gains.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Nikkei index dropped 1.42 percent, closing at 69,042.11 points, while the broader Topix index decreased by 1.51 percent to settle at 4,091.46 points.
The technology sector experienced significant losses with shares of chipmaker Rohm plunging 5.19 percent. SoftBank Group, known for its technology investments, saw its shares fall by 4.28 percent, and Tokyo Electron shares decreased by 2.48 percent.
Sumco, a supplier of silicon wafers used in semiconductors, recorded the largest percentage loss on the Nikkei index with a decline of 5.73 percent. This was followed by construction equipment manufacturer Komatsu, whose shares dropped 5.52 percent, and agricultural machinery and equipment manufacturer Kubota, down 5.42 percent.
