Jerusalem:Amman: Jordan has condemned the ongoing incursions by extremist settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, including a recent incident, as well as provocative actions and statements by certain Israeli officials.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson, Fuad Majali, expressed strong condemnation of the repeated incursions and associated provocative practices, calling them a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law. He emphasized that these actions appear to be an attempt to alter the status of the compound by dividing it both temporally and spatially.
Majali asserted that Israel holds no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its holy sites. He highlighted the potential consequences of these continued violations and provocations and urged the international community to pressure Israel, as the occupying power, to cease these practices and stop the ongoing violations against Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He further called for an end to illegal measures in the occupied West Bank and incitement against the Palestinian people. Majali reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque, spanning 144 dunums, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. He clarified that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, under Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, is the legally authorized body responsible for all affairs related to the mosque, including regulating access to the compound.
