Doha: Lebanese President Gen. Joseph Aoun emphasized that the state's monopoly on the use of weapons is an entirely Lebanese sovereign decision. He noted that this determination is made through internal dialogue, under the auspices of the President of the Republic and legitimate state institutions.
According to Qatar News Agency, Aoun reiterated Lebanon's commitment to the accord signed in Washington, contingent upon tangible assurances, including Israel's complete and synchronized withdrawal, the deployment of the Lebanese military, and a thorough cessation of breaches and assaults in the south.
Aoun asserted that the Lebanese state, represented by the President of the Republic and the government, is the sole entity authorized to make decisions regarding sovereignty, security, and relations with external entities. He continuously stresses the importance of these principles.
Moreover, Aoun acknowledged the need for a cumulative approach and ongoing internal dialogue to implement the understandings resulting from the ceasefire and address outstanding issues, particularly the monopoly on the use of weapons. He advocated for a non-confrontational approach, emphasizing that Lebanon's best interest lies in a strong nation with legitimate institutions, rather than divisions over decisions of war and peace.
