Lebanese President, UN Official Discuss Arrangements in Southern Lebanon After UNIFIL Withdraws in 2027

Beirut: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun and United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix discussed the arrangements that will take place in southern Lebanon following the withdrawal of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) at the end of 2027.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement issued Wednesday, the Lebanese Presidency said that Aoun welcomed any country wishing to maintain its forces in southern Lebanon to assist the Lebanese Army after UNIFIL withdraws, with the condition that an agreement is reached regarding the framework under which such a force would operate.
