MECC and Commercial Bank Sign Cooperation Initiative for Environmental Sustainability

Doha: The Minister of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) signed a cooperation initiative with the Commercial Bank on Monday, attended by HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, and HE Commercial Bank Board Member, Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah.

According to Qatar News Agency, the initiative was signed by Assistant Undersecretary for Conservation and Nature Reserves Affairs at MECC, Dr. Ibrahim Abdullatif Al Muslamani, and Commercial Bank EGM and Chief Wholesale and International Banking Officer, Fahad Abdulrahman Badar. This initiative aims to enhance joint efforts in protecting the Qatari environment, with a focus on preserving natural reserves and contributing to sustainable environmental development in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The initiative also involves the creation of a joint technical committee to oversee the implementation of agreed programs, ensuring coordinated efforts between the parties to achieve set environmental objectives. Dr. Ibrahim Abdullatif Al Muslamani emphasized that this cooperation strengthens the partnership between government and private sectors in supporting environmental protection efforts. The initiative includes qualitative measures such as fencing kindergartens for preservation, launching cleaning campaigns, and promoting biodiversity through planting local flora, all aimed at achieving environmental balance and sustainability in Qatar.

He further highlighted the initiative's role in promoting voluntary environmental practices and raising community awareness about the significance of kindergartens in preserving the natural environment and combating desertification. The private sector's involvement is seen as crucial for achieving a balance between economic, social development, and environmental protection.

Dr. Al Muslamani stated that MECC will provide technical support, offer consultations on kindergarten protection, coordinate with relevant authorities for efficient implementation, and monitor the initiative's progress through periodic reports to assess its environmental impact.

Joseph Abraham, Commercial Bank Group CEO, expressed pride in collaborating with MECC, emphasizing the bank's commitment to Qatar's sustainable development. The bank's strategic approach aligns with the Qatar National Vision 2030, reflecting their dedication to supporting national environmental and climate change objectives through sustainable financial services.
