Minister of State Highlights Mediation as Core of Qatar’s Foreign Policy

Doha: HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, emphasized that mediation serves as the backbone of Qatar's foreign policy, extending its influence from the Middle East to regions such as Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Khulaifi, speaking at the 2025 Global Security Forum in Doha, highlighted Qatar's trusted role in resolving disputes, citing its involvement in regions like the Gaza Strip, where Qatar facilitated ceasefire agreements between Israel and Hamas in November 2023 and January 2025. He noted the fluctuating nature of these efforts but emphasized the importance of perseverance.

Dr. Al Khulaifi discussed Qatar's commitment to dialogue with Iran, highlighting mutual respect and transparent discussions as key to resolving disputes. He praised Oman's efforts in facilitating US-Iran discussions as a path to regional peace.

On the Syrian issue, Dr. Al Khulaifi affirmed Qatar's consistent support for the Syrian people and involvement in projects, including electricity initiatives via Jordan and debt settlements with Saudi Arabia. He stressed Qatar's ongoing efforts in supporting Syrian development.

Addressing the situation in Yemen, Dr. Al Khulaifi acknowledged the complexity and emphasized the need for dialogue, with support from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to alleviate Yemeni suffering.

Regarding Lebanon, he described recent political developments, such as the election of a president, as positive, urging Israel to cease attacks in southern Lebanon. Qatar's support for Lebanese stability, including military assistance, remains steadfast.

On US relations, Dr. Al Khulaifi noted that Qatar's institutional ties with the US remain unchanged across administrations. Highlighting collaboration with former President Donald Trump and Special Envoy Steven Witkoff, he mentioned ongoing cooperation, particularly on Gaza-related issues.

Dr. Al Khulaifi also affirmed Qatar's strong relationship with GCC countries, noting significant developments within the joint council. He emphasized Qatar's commitment to regional cooperation and dialogue, particularly concerning Afghanistan, where Qatar has led educational initiatives.

Concluding the forum, Dr. Al Khulaifi urged the global community to devise new conflict-resolution mechanisms, advocating for peaceful solutions as historically effective paths.
