Doha: The Ministry of Labour, represented by the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, organized a workshop in collaboration with the National Human Rights Committee. The event, titled "National Referral System for Combating Human Trafficking: Protecting and Rehabilitating Victims and Promoting Human Rights," marked the first of its kind focused on Qatar's National Referral System.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour and Secretary-General of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, emphasized the significance of launching the National Referral System. This initiative aims to enhance Qatar's framework for combating human trafficking by protecting victims and ensuring a coordinated response. She highlighted Qatar's efforts in establishing specialized systems and partnerships for prevention, case identification, protection, law enforcement, and prosecution.
Sheikha Najwa acknowledged the evolving nature of human trafficking and stressed the importance of a flexible response that adapts to emerging challenges. She described the National Referral System as a comprehensive framework that delineates the roles of different entities, ensuring seamless case referrals and coordination. She added that the system's success depends on practical implementation, understanding of roles, and coordinated action.
Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Committee, reinforced the alignment of the National Referral System with Qatar's constitutional principles and legislative measures. He underscored the system's role in protecting vulnerable groups and ensuring fair trials for offenders. Al Jamali called for an integrated approach among all relevant entities for effective action against human trafficking.
The workshop, part of the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Labour and the National Human Rights Committee, aimed to familiarize participants with the National Referral System's operations. It focused on the stages of case handling, coordination mechanisms, and the roles of involved entities to ensure a prompt and effective response to human trafficking cases.
