Yeongam:Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) celebrated the naming of the latest LPG/Ammonia carrier to join its fleet during a special ceremony at the HD Hyundai Samho shipyard in Yeongam, Republic of Korea.
According to Qatar News Agency, the new vessel, named "Energy North," is scheduled to enter service on October 2, 2026. It is the first of six new vessels Nakilat plans to build at the HD Hyundai Samho shipyard, which includes two LNG carriers and four LPG/ammonia carriers. This expansion is part of Nakilat's strategy to enhance its operational capabilities and meet the increasing global demand for energy transport services.
Abdullah Al Sulaiti, Chief Executive Officer of Nakilat, highlighted the significance of this addition, stating that it marks an important milestone in Nakilat's fleet expansion program. Al Sulaiti emphasized the company's commitment to developing a modern and diversified fleet that supports the global energy transportation sector efficiently and reliably, reinforcing Nakilat's status as a leading global partner in maritime transportation.
Al Sulaiti also acknowledged the strong collaboration with HD Hyundai Samho and the effort of all project teams in advancing these vessels. He reiterated Nakilat's focus on operational excellence, innovation, and sustainable growth.
"Energy North" has a cargo capacity of 88,000 cubic meters and is specifically designed for the safe and efficient transport of LPG and ammonia. Equipped with advanced dual-fuel propulsion technology and emissions-reduction systems, the vessel offers enhanced fuel efficiency and operational flexibility, along with superior environmental performance. Its ammonia-ready design aligns with the evolving global energy landscape, positioning it to play a crucial role in future low-carbon energy supply chains.
