Nikkei Index Climbs Over 1 Percent Amid US Futures Gains

Tokyo: The Nikkei index in Japan closed higher by more than one percent on Monday, tracking gains in US stock futures. The Nikkei rose 1.26 percent to close at 50,911.76 points, while the broader Topix added 0.56 percent to 3,317.42.

According to Qatar News Agency, futures for the S and P 500 rose 0.75 percent and Nasdaq futures gained 1.28 percent. In Japan, Advantest Corp climbed 3.81 percent, and Tokyo Electron jumped 4.27 percent. SoftBank Group rose 2.56 percent.

Kioxia Holdings climbed 10.63 percent, while Towa surged 23.82 percent to a record high. Mercari gained 18.17 percent after reporting a 70 percent jump in net profit for the quarter ended September 30.

Conversely, Honda Motor fell 4.67 percent after cutting its full-year profit forecast by 21 percent on Friday. However, Toyota Motor reversed losses to close 0.42 percent higher.

Of more than 1,600 stocks traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's main market, 76 percent rose, 21 percent fell, and 2 percent were flat.
