KYIV: Ukrainian authorities reported a fatal Russian drone attack on the capital city on Wednesday, resulting in one death and six injuries. The attack partially destroyed two floors of a residential building and caused damage to other structures.
According to Qatar News Agency, Kyiv’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that air defenses successfully repelled the attack, yet debris from the intercepted drones inflicted significant damage. A residential building suffered partial destruction on two floors, while a non-residential building in a different district also sustained damage. Additionally, a Ukrainian bank reported damage to one of its buildings due to debris from a downed drone.
Images released by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine showed firefighters working to extinguish a blaze and assist the injured at the scene. The military administration in Kyiv later confirmed that a body was recovered from the rubble, underscoring the severity of the attack.
The Ukrainian military announced it successfully shot down 63 out of 111 drones launched by Russia across various regions of Ukraine overnight. An additional 46 drones were neutralized using radar jamming techniques, highlighting the ongoing tension and conflict in the region.
