Over 18,500 Patients in Gaza Lack Urgent Specialized Care, WHO Says

Gaza: Over 18,500 patients in Gaza are currently unable to access the urgent specialized care they require, as highlighted by the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the critical need for rapid rehabilitation, reconstruction, medical supply support, and facility repairs in order to alleviate the dependency on medical evacuations. The ongoing situation follows more than two years of continuous Israeli attacks.

According to Qatar News Agency, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also called for the immediate reopening of patient referral pathways to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. This measure is deemed essential to ensure that life-saving care can be provided to those in dire need. In a recent effort, WHO assisted in the medical evacuation of 5 patients and 7 companions through the Rafah crossing, highlighting the urgent interventions being undertaken to address the healthcare crisis in the region.
