Palestinian Awqaf Ministry Rejects Israeli Measures to Withdraw Planning and Construction Authority at Ibrahimi Mosque

Hebron: The Palestinian Ministry of Religious and Endowments Affairs has firmly rejected Israeli measures that aim to withdraw its authority over planning and construction at the Ibrahimi Mosque.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry declared that these measures represent a significant infringement on its exclusive powers and its sole jurisdiction concerning all matters related to the mosque from a Palestinian perspective. The Ministry expressed its strong opposition to any attempts to roof the courtyard of the Ibrahimi Mosque, citing the potential harm to its historical and cultural significance.

The Ministry further highlighted that this situation constitutes a clear violation of its exclusive rights, including the authority to conduct necessary restoration and repair work at the mosque, encompassing the sections that have been seized. It emphasized its refusal to accept any encroachment or reduction of these powers by the Israeli occupation.

The Palestinian Ministry of Religious and Endowments (Awqaf) has observed a marked increase in Israeli violations since the current far-right government assumed office. These actions appear to be part of a strategic effort to assert complete control over the Ibrahimi Mosque, with a noticeable rise in intensity since October 7, 2023.

In its annual report on Israeli violations against the Ibrahimi Mosque during 2025, the Awqaf detailed the unprecedented severity of these assaults, which are the most significant since the occupation of Hebron in 1967.
