Tunis:Central Punjab Four people lost their lives and at least 30 others sustained injuries when a passenger train derailed in Pakistan's central Punjab province.
According to Qatar News Agency, the train was en route from the southern city of Karachi to the northwestern city of Peshawar when it derailed, leading to several carriages overturning.
A railway spokesperson noted that rescue teams promptly recovered the bodies of the victims and transported the injured to hospitals for treatment.
Train accidents are a common occurrence in Pakistan, attributed to decades of underinvestment and the aging railway infrastructure. In a similar incident earlier in 2023, ten carriages of a passenger train derailed in southern Pakistan, resulting in 30 deaths and injuries to more than 90 individuals.
