Police Academy Hosts Symposium on AI and Airport Security Challenges

Doha: The Police Academy, in collaboration with the Center for Security Research and Studies and the Airport Security Department, organized a symposium to address challenges in airport security and the integration of artificial intelligence technologies. The event was graced by HE Legal Advisor to the Minister of Interior and General Supervisor of the Police Academy Major General Dr. Abdullah Yousef Al Mal, along with officials from the Ministry of Interior, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar Customs Authority, and a delegation from the Sultanate of Oman.

According to Qatar News Agency, the symposium focused on analyzing current security landscapes in airports, the role of AI in risk prediction and behavioral analysis, and the legal and ethical challenges of implementing AI technologies. Specialists from various entities presented scientific, research, and practical recommendations for enhancing airport security systems.

The symposium featured two main themes. The first explored airport security strategies amidst AI challenges and the technological opportunities available to mitigate security threats. The second theme examined the legal, regulatory, and ethical dimensions of AI deployment.

Colonel Khamis Mohammed Al Muraikhi, Director of Airport Security, stated that the symposium underscores the commitment to uphold top security standards in airports while embracing technological advancements. He emphasized the importance of an integrated security system built on knowledge, planning, and cooperation, advocating for a model of continuous vigilance and flexibility.

Colonel Dr. Jassim Mohammed Al Khamees Al Obaidli, Director of the Center for Security Research and Studies, highlighted the need for proactive development of tools and concepts to anticipate risks. He emphasized the integration of coordination, field expertise, and advanced technologies in monitoring and risk management.

The first session, moderated by Brigadier Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Al-Subaih, covered security challenges and emerging AI technologies. Lt. Col. Engineer Ali Abdullah Al Suwaidi discussed AI opportunities and security challenges, Ajab Mansour Al Qahtani addressed smuggling attempts, and Major Zayed Rashid Al Nuaimi presented on the Airport Security Department's strategy concerning AI challenges.

The second session, led by Colonel Dr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Khamees Al-Obaidli, focused on regulatory, legal, and ethical dimensions of AI in airport security. Papers presented by Captain Khalid Naji Al-Habbabi, Nawaf Fawaz Al Ajmi, and Captain Dr. Khalifa Ahmed Al Kuwari explored legal challenges, national regulations, and legal responsibilities associated with AI-driven decisions in airport security.
