Brighton: Brighton and Hove Albion handed defending champions Arsenal their first defeat of the season with a 3-0 victory Saturday in the fifth round of the Premier League, while Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-2 at home to Aston Villa.
According to Qatar News Agency, Pascal Gross opened the scoring for Brighton in the 31st minute, Charalampos Kostoulas doubled the lead just before halftime, and Chema Andres added a third in the 57th minute. The victory was Brighton's third of the league season.
Brighton moved into third place with 10 points, while Arsenal remained on 12 points after winning their first four matches in succession. The defending champions dropped to second on goal difference behind Manchester City, who host Sunderland on Sunday.
In the other match, Aston Villa earned their first league victory of the season by beating Tottenham 3-2 to move to four points. Tottenham remained on two points and without a win after five rounds.
Johan Manzambi put Aston Villa ahead in first-half stoppage time, Nicolas Jackson made it 2-0 in the 67th minute, and Emiliano Buendia added a third in the 79th.
Tottenham reduced the deficit through Conor Gallagher in the 86th minute, before Jan Paul van Hecke scored in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
Newcastle United beat visiting Hull City 2-1, with Joe Willock and Lewis Hall scoring for the hosts in the third and seventh minutes, respectively. Mohamed-Ali Cho pulled one back for Hull in the 67th minute.
Everton defeated visiting Ipswich Town 1-0 through Thierno Barry's 11th-minute goal. Ipswich's Abdul Fatawu was sent off in the 67th minute after receiving a second yellow card.
Promoted Coventry City also recorded their first league victory of the season, beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 through Jay Dasilva's 55th-minute goal. The result gave Coventry its first Premier League win since the 2000-01 season.
