Doha: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun called for effective international action to put an end to Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon, stressing that such actions undermine ongoing efforts to stabilize the region.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement issued today, Aoun said that the Israeli entity shows no regard for regional and international calls to halt violence and de-escalate tensions in the area. He condemned Israel's continued violations of Lebanese sovereignty and its breach of the agreement reached last November.
He noted that he is closely monitoring the recent Israeli escalation targeting the Nabatieh and Iqlim Al Tuffah areas and their civilian populations in southern Lebanon, which has so far resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to others.
It is worth noting that the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, which came into effect on November 27, stipulated the withdrawal of Israeli forces from border villages and towns in southern Lebanon within 60 days. However, Israeli forces have remained stationed at five locations and continue to commit violations intermittently.
