Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun emphasized the urgent need to cease Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and to enforce a ceasefire, facilitating the swift delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
According to Qatar News Agency, during a press conference in Cairo, the presidents rejected any attempts to displace Palestinians and urged the international community to fulfill its duty in compelling Israel to withdraw unconditionally from all Lebanese territories. They stressed the necessity of implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 in its entirety, without selectivity, to enable Lebanon to exercise full sovereignty over its land.
Both leaders condemned repeated Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty, calling for a withdrawal from Syrian territory and respect for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
President El-Sisi highlighted the significance of President Aoun's visit amid the region's complex and volatile situation. Discussions covered strategies to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic and commercial sectors. El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast support for Lebanon in achieving internal stability and sovereignty, rejecting Israel's territorial violations and occupation.
President Aoun emphasized the importance of halting Israeli hostilities and referenced the 1949 General Armistice Agreement between Lebanon and Israel. He acknowledged the critical role of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in restoring security and stability to southern Lebanon.
Aoun also called on the international community to enforce the agreement, sponsored by the United States and France on November 26, which demands Israel's withdrawal from Lebanese territories and the return of all Lebanese prisoners.
