The State of Qatar affirmed that promoting constructive international cooperation represented in the exchange of good practices, transfer of knowledge, benefiting from scientific and technological progress, and helping countries to bridge the digital divide is an important pillar in the framework of providing technical support and building the capacities of countries, and a prerequisite for achieving the principle of universality of human rights.
This came in the State of Qatar’s statement delivered by the Second Secretary in the Office of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mansour Al Mahmoud, during the general debate on providing technical assistance and capacity-building, within the framework of the 51st session of the Human Rights Council currently being held in Geneva.
Al Mahmoud said that in view of the growing challenges facing all countries today, represented by the negative effects of climate change, the spread of poverty, food insecurity, the increasing in the extent and duration of armed conflicts, and health challenges such as the (COVID-19) pandemic, providing technical assistance and assisting countries in building and strengthening their human rights capabilities based on their wishes, priorities, and its main needs, is indispensable to address these challenges, noting that this support is not only important for the promotion and protection of human rights, but also for the implementation of sustainable development goals and support for the efforts of states in this regard.
