Post: Qatar Emphasizes Global Collaboration for Sustainable Development

Doha:The State of Qatar has reinforced its stance that sustainable development is a shared global responsibility, necessitating enhanced international cooperation based on solidarity and partnership. Qatar has expressed its commitment to work alongside all Member States and the United Nations to strengthen collective efforts and build more resilient economies and societies.

According to Qatar News Agency, Mohamed Hassan Al Emadi, Third Secretary at Qatar's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, addressed the general debate of the Second Committee of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. He highlighted the challenging global development landscape faced by developing countries, marked by issues such as shrinking fiscal space, widening investment gaps, mounting debt, climate change impacts, trade disruptions, and geopolitical crises.

Al Emadi discussed Qatar National Vision 2030, which focuses on human, social, economic, and environmental development. He emphasized the importance of investing in people to achieve inclusive and sustainable development. He also highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence to accelerate development while warning of the risks of exacerbating inequalities if developing countries lack the necessary infrastructure and resources.

Qatar prioritizes international cooperation in digital capacity building and the equitable use of artificial intelligence. The country is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through partnerships and contributions via the Qatar Fund for Development, collaborating with UN agencies and other international organizations.

Al Emadi reaffirmed Qatar's dedication to supporting the least developed countries (LDCs) through the Doha Programme of Action for 2022-2031 and announced Qatar's readiness to host a midterm review in 2027. He sees this as a pivotal moment to assess progress and strengthen partnerships for sustainable development.

On UN reform, Al Emadi highlighted the UN80 Initiative as a means to enhance the United Nations' efficiency and effectiveness. He emphasized the importance of intergovernmental ownership in the reform process to reduce duplication and improve coherence across the UN system.

Qatar anticipates that the draft resolutions considered by the Second Committee will reflect consensus and partnership, focusing on tangible outcomes aligned with UN reform objectives and the 2030 Agenda.
