Qatar Endorses National Sports Policy to Enhance Quality of Life

Doha: Al-Sharq newspaper affirmed that the Cabinet's approval of the Qatar National Sports Policy at its recent meeting, chaired by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, reflects the country's recognition of the pivotal role of sport in enhancing quality of life, public health, community development, national identity, and global excellence.

According to Qatar News Agency, the National Sports Policy, prepared by the Ministry of Sports and Youth in coordination with the National Planning Council, aims to develop the sports sector, support athletic excellence and sustainability, and entrench the role of sports in promoting healthy lifestyles and improving quality of life. This policy aligns with the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 and contributes to the achievement of the objectives of the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030.

The State of Qatar has a strong track record in hosting major international sports events, most notably the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the first to be held in the Middle East. Its remarkable success in delivering an unprecedented and exceptional tournament, along with organizing numerous major global sport competitions, has firmly established the country as a global hub and capital of sport.

Al-Sharq concluded by emphasizing that the Cabinet's endorsement of the National Sports Policy underscores the priority accorded to sport in the State of Qatar, which dedicates an annual National Sport Day, observed on the second Tuesday of February each year. This reflects the prominent status of sport in the country and its designation as a strategic national choice.
