Doha: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC), took part in the Scientific Committee meetings of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) held in Geneva, Switzerland. Representatives from States Parties, international organizations, and experts from various countries also participated in these important discussions.
According to Qatar News Agency, the delegation from Qatar was led by Khalid Al Mohannadi, Director of the Wildlife Development Department at MOECC. The team engaged in discussions on numerous scientific and technical topics concerning the protection of endangered species. Key areas of focus included strengthening the mechanisms for implementing the Convention, reviewing proposals for the listing of species, and exploring methods to develop supporting scientific evidence.
Qatar's involvement in these meetings underscores its commitment to supporting international efforts in conserving biodiversity. The State aims to enhance cooperation with States Parties and international organizations, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
