Qatar Engages in Global Maritime Safety Dialogue at IMO

Doha: The State of Qatar, through its Permanent Delegation to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has taken part in the twelfth session of the Sub-Committee on the Implementation of IMO Instruments held at the IMO headquarters in London, UK.

According to Qatar News Agency, this participation underscores Qatar's dedication to supporting global initiatives aimed at developing mechanisms for implementing international maritime instruments and conventions. The focus is on ensuring their effective implementation and boosting member states' adherence to international maritime safety, security, and marine environment protection standards. This commitment contributes to enhancing safety and efficiency in the maritime transport sector while safeguarding lives, property, and the marine environment.

Throughout the session, the Committee addressed various technical and organizational topics concerning the implementation of IMO instruments. Key discussions included monitoring the Member States Audit Scheme, analyzing maritime accidents to extract valuable lessons, reviewing data and procedures related to port state control, and improving the performance of flag, port, and coastal states in meeting their international commitments.
