Post: Qatar Engages in Strategic Talks at 11th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong

Doha: The State of Qatar participated in the 11th Belt and Road Summit, hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region under the theme "Advancing High-Quality Development: Embarking on a New Journey." The State of Qatar was represented at the summit by HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed. According to Qatar News Agency, the summit was opened by HE Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee, with the presence of several senior officials and representatives from regional and international organizations. In a policy dialogue session at the summit, HE Minister Al Sayed emphasized the summit's role in fostering dialogue, cooperation, and building economic partnerships globally. HE Minister Al Sayed highlighted the significance of bolstering economic and trade relations between Qatar and Hong Kong, citing Hong Kong's status as a global trade hub. He mentioned that the trade volume between Qatar and Hon g Kong reached approximately $1.7 billion over the past four years. He also noted the presence of numerous Hong Kong companies in Qatar, showcasing the potential for expanding bilateral relations. HE Al Sayed stressed the importance of enhancing trade cooperation through trade exhibitions and markets, which could promote national products and facilitate their entry into Asian markets. He invited Hong Kong companies to take advantage of Qatar's competitive economic environment and free zones to establish partnerships that would benefit both markets. On the sidelines of the summit, HE Al Sayed held meetings with several officials, including HE Chief Executive John Lee, HE Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau, HE Financial Secretary Paul Chan, and ministers from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. These meetings explored opportunities for joint cooperation in economic, trade, and investment sectors.
