Doha:The national handball team of Qatar is set to compete against Japan on Friday in the final Group A match at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026. Both teams are currently tied with four points each, following Qatar's victories over Hong Kong, China (40-17), and China (30-25).
According to Qatar News Agency, in athletics, Qatar's Ammar Ismail and Ashraf Osman will commence their 400m qualifying heats at Mizuho Park Stadium. Meanwhile, Moaaz Ibrahim achieved a fifth-place finish in the discus throw with a 59.39-meter mark.
In other sporting events, Qatari equestrians Jassim Mohamed Al Jaham Al Kuwari and Saud Ahmed Al Boanain are continuing their participation in individual dressage, which will conclude with the finals on Sunday. The swimming competitions are drawing to a close, with Saad El Din Sami finishing tenth in the 800m freestyle final with a time of 8:01.43.
The table tennis competition saw brothers Mohamed Abdelwahab and Abdulla Abdelwahab advancing to the second round after securing victories against opponents from Indonesia and Laos, respectively. They will next face competitors from Japan and Singapore.
In shooting, Rashid Saleh Al Athba and Reem Al Sharshani placed fourth in mixed skeet despite leading in the qualification rounds. The gymnastics events concluded with Rakan Al Harith scoring 13.900 on the pommel horse, Mehrdad Ghadimi scoring 13.400, and Salma Nasser Hamid scoring 11.516 on the vault.
In squash, Abdullah Al Tamimi had to withdraw from the round of 16 match against Japan's Tsukue Ryunosuke due to a hamstring injury.
