Doha: The State of Qatar, through its Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), organized a workshop aimed at coordinating the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This event marked a significant step in aligning regional climate action efforts.
According to Qatar News Agency, the workshop addressed the development and assessment of national contributions to combat climate change, with a focus on ensuring these contributions align with the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals. The gathering provided an opportunity for Gulf states to share expertise and enhance national capabilities in climate-related initiatives.
Participants received detailed briefings on the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Paris Agreement, and the climate priorities within the Gulf region. Key discussions included the challenges of preparing biennial transparency reports (BTR), the necessity of Gulf-wide coordination, and a review of national climate policies.
The workshop also included a practical session focusing on the processes for preparing and updating NDCs, featuring case studies from GCC countries and discussions on future climate commitments. The event concluded with a strategic session outlining key recommendations and steps to integrate climate outcomes into national development plans across GCC member states.
