Qatar Photography Center Hosts ‘City Speaks’ Exhibition Highlighting Global Interconnectedness

Doha: The Qatar Photography Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, has announced its hosting of the GPU Photography Exhibition 'City Speaks' at its headquarters in the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara on Friday. This event is being organized in collaboration with the Global Photographic Union (GPU).

According to Qatar News Agency, the exhibition is a celebration of the Qatar Photography Center's recent accreditation as an official GPU center and its designation as the Union's regional representative. This recognition underscores the center's role in promoting photography, enhancing Qatar's status as a hub for creatives and photographers worldwide.

Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, Director of the Qatar Photography Center, stated that the exhibition provides a unique visual experience with 96 photographs taken in various cities globally. These images are curated into 48 paired panels to uncover hidden connections between distant urban experiences.

Al Buainain explained that the exhibition aims to create a visual dialogue between two distinct locations in each panel, where overlapping scenes illuminate one another unexpectedly. This arrangement explores global interconnectedness, showcasing parallel rhythms of daily life and architectural forms that resonate across cities separated by vast distances.

The Director emphasized that 'City Speaks' is more than just a collection of photographs; it is an invitation to view the world as an interconnected entity, where each city's voice contributes to a broader human and geographical narrative.
