Doha:The State of Qatar, through its Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), is set to host the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26) at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center from November 9 to 27, 2026.

According to Qatar News Agency, the State of Qatar and ITU have signed the Host Country Agreement for the 2026 conference, which is a significant step in the preparations for the event. This agreement outlines the framework and arrangements necessary for hosting the conference, ensuring appropriate conditions for its proceedings with participation from ITU's 194 Member States and other stakeholders worldwide.

The conference is expected to attract around 3,000 participants, including high-level dignitaries, industry experts, and academic representatives. Engineer Ahmad bin Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of the CRA and Chair-Designate of ITU PP-26, remarked that the agreement demonstrates Qatar's commitment to providing the necessary resources for the conference's success. He emphasized the country's anticipation of welcoming the global telecommunications community to Doha to foster cooperation and consensus among Member States.

The Plenipotentiary Conference is ITU's highest policy-making body, held every four years. It plays a crucial role in determining the Union's strategic direction and general policies, adopting strategic and financial plans, and electing senior leadership, ITU Council members, and Radio Regulations Board members.
