Qatari Newspaper Editorials

Doha: In their editorials on Monday, Qatari newspapers emphasized the State of Qatar’s respected position as a significant and influential voice on the global stage and in the activities of the United Nations General Assembly.

In this context, the newspapers highlighted the participation of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani in the Summit of the Future, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The editorials explained that the State of Qatar, through this international platform, has alerted the world to the severe global digital divide, which hinders development and deprives many countries of economic progress, which poses a threat to social stability in those nations, as well as on both regional and global levels.

In its editorial, Al-Sharq said that the Summit of the Future, which concludes its sessions on Monday, focuses on five main tracks: sustainable development and financing, peace and securit
y, a digital future for all, youth and future generations, and global governance, in addition to human rights, gender equality, and the climate crisis. The Summit represents an opportunity to enhance cooperation on fundamental challenges, bridge gaps in global governance, and reaffirm existing commitments, including the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Charter, through the issuance of the Future Charter, Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations, the newspaper explained.

It added that the State of Qatar actively participated in all stages of negotiation regarding the final document of the Summit of the Future and its annexes, which is an extension of its support for the recommendations of the UN Secretary-General in his report on “Our Common Agenda.” Last year, Qatar also led negotiations on the political declaration for the UN Sustainable Development Summit.

Al-Sharq stressed that the State of Qatar, as part of its commitment to multilateral international work and its strategic
partnership with the UN, spares no effort in fostering joint action to achieve global consensus on improving the present and safeguarding the future for generations to come in a world that is more peaceful, secure, and prosperous for all.

In turn, Al-Raya newspaper explained that Qatar National Vision 2030 places great emphasis on research, development, and innovation as a fundamental pillar that ensures a smooth transition to a diverse and sustainable knowledge-based economy, driven by technological leadership, innovation, and digital solutions.

The editorial added that Qatar has worked vigorously to achieve this strategic objective, launching its strategy for research, development, and innovation. This was highlighted by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, during his address at the Summit of the Future. This year, Qatar initiated the Third Qatar National Development Strategy under the Qatar National Vision 2030 to build a diverse and susta
inable knowledge-based economy by leveraging digital technologies, science, and innovations while enhancing human development.

The newspaper noted that Qatar’s goals and ambitions know no bounds, having become a leading center for the digital economy, pointing out that the National Development Strategy clearly emphasizes the necessity of focusing on knowledge and innovation as crucial factors for achieving economic diversification.

The editorial concluded by pointing out that if we are to commit to the UN goal of achieving sustainable development and not leaving anyone behind, as emphasized by the HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, we must work to enhance global governance, including reforming international financing structures, alleviating debt burdens, closing the digital divide, and strengthening efforts to achieve sustainable economic growth and social well-being based on protecting human rights, empowering women, and enhancing climate action.
