Doha: In a series of editorials published on Monday, Qatari newspapers focused on the country’s initiatives to mediate a ceasefire in Gaza amid a dire humanitarian crisis and critiqued the international community’s failure to address the ongoing violence and displacement affecting Palestinians.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya newspaper reported that Qatar has ramped up its diplomatic efforts to halt the aggression in Gaza. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with a delegation from Hamas in Doha on Saturday to discuss ceasefire negotiations. The editorial emphasized Qatar’s commitment to mediating an end to the conflict and mitigating the humanitarian crisis in the region. Al-Raya further highlighted Qatar’s warnings about escalating violence since the onset of Israeli aggression and its sustained diplomatic interventions to secure an immediate ceasefire.
Al-Sharq newspaper, in its editorial, criticized the international community for failing to prevent the ongoing genocide and displacement in Gaza over the past 14 months. The paper accused global powers of leniency toward the Israeli government, which it argued has emboldened further expansion of violent acts against Palestinians. Al-Sharq condemned recent provocations, including the intrusion of Israeli officials into Al-Aqsa Mosque, framing such actions as part of a broader agenda to Judaize Jerusalem and undermine peace efforts.
The editorial from Al-Sharq further highlighted the threat posed by these actions to international peace and security, stressing the international community’s moral and legal responsibilities toward Jerusalem and its holy sites. The newspaper concluded that the continued inaction by global institutions serves to exacerbate violence and endangers prospects for a two-state solution and lasting peace.
